Polaris
Around 130 years ago, a revolutionary design in wool wear was born in the midlands of England. There, at the time one of the world’s wool clothing manufacturing powerhouses, knitters successfully created a “waffle knit” fabric designed to be at one moment breathable and the next highly heat retaining. For the next century, wool layer fanatics became accustomed to this waffle knit design, which emerged as a timeless standard. And then, just like that, they fell out of favor to synthetics. The folks over at Duckworth asked themselves: “Why?” When you consider why the dimpled waffle-knit design was so popular in the first place - trapping air in those very same pockets when layered underneath another piece of fabric or freely allowing the passage of cool air when worn alone - why would anyone abandon wanting this useful tool in their arsenal? This question led to the eventual develpoment of the Polaris line: an American made Merino Wool base layer line infused with premium Montana fleece and some modern tech upgrades. Beyond versatile and with such an understand performance capacity, the 175 grams per square meter Polaris has been dubbed as the “Survival Kit Baselayer,” a name that speaks for itself.
