Comet
Comet represents where Duckworth Merino Wool layers step it up a notch in terms of insulation. Coming in at a whopping 315 grams per square meter (more than double our lightest wool fabric line, Vapor), this American made Merino Wool fabric is designed to take advantage of the welding together of two separate fabrics - a Merino Wool outer layer and a recycled polyester inner layer - to create an unstoppable insulating, sweat wicking piece. How does that work, exactly, and why the “bi-ply” design? The insulation piece is easy: Air gets trapped between the two layers, responding to the temperature of the body and retaining that heat when things get chilly. The sweat-wicking piece is a little more scientific: polyester is hydrophobic while wool is hydrophilic, meaning as the body sweats the polyester component “repels” the sweat off the body and into the outer layer where the wool then releases the sweat as water vapor, keeping your body dry and free of heat-sapping moisture.
